European Representation

The labour administrations of the EU member states play an important role in the implementation of the European Employment Strategy launched by the European Commission.
For that reason, the German Federal Employment Agency has opened its own European representation. The office in Brussels provides direct contact to all relevant European institutions and works as a link between the European Commission and the political interests of the Federal Employment Agency.

Our mission and task

The executive board of the Federal Employment Agency of Germany (BA) decided to open a "Representation of the BA to the European Union" on 15th october 2003. Its director is an authorised representative of the executive board. The European Representation’s main task is to consult and to participate in the decision-making process of the Commission's General Directories and the Parliament's Committees in cases concerning the interests of the Federal Employment Agency. The European Representation’s main task is to consult and to participate in the decision-making process of the Commission’s General Directories and the Parliament's Committees in cases concerning the interests of the Federal Employment Agency. Furthermore, the European Representation analyses and evaluates all decisions, trends and developments that the executive board of the BA considers to be important. Consequently, the European Representation is the essential contact for the Federal Agency in Brussels. The European Representation attends meetings of the European Commission and reports to its headquarters in Nuremberg. Moreover, the Brussels office is responsible for principal questions of the network Euroguidance.

Our "clients"

According to the mission of the European Representation, our "clients" are the members of the executive board and the administrative board as well as other members of staff of the Federal Agency. Further on, the EU Commissioners responsible for "Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth", "Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion" and "Home Affairs", the members of the European Parliament, and their assistants are considered our clients.

Service

What has the European Representation to offer? Through information management on the European level, we work as an early warning system and consult the Federal Agency. Our partners in the European Commission and the EU Parliament are very interested in the changes and reforms of the Federal Employment Agency. We participate in meetings of various committees of the EU Parliament, particularly the "Committee on Employment and Social Affairs", and attend parliamentary decisions. If required, the European Representation keeps appointments at the European Commission for members of the Federal Agency, or arranges meetings with conversational partners from the Commission.
Furthermore, the European Representation contributes to personnel development of the BA.

Publications

The European Representation informs the executive board of the Federal Agency regularly. Recent decisions, bulletins, reports and other official publications of the European Union are presented, commented and evaluated.

Our partners in Brussels

The European institutions mentioned above, the European Representation is a member of various networks. As an associate member of ESIP (European Social Insurance Platform), the BA-European Representation (as well as the Representation of the German social insurance (Deutsche Sozialversicherung)) belongs to the house of European social partners, which facilitates exchange of specific information and experiences.
