Digital transformation – Federal Employment Agency uses RISE with SAP private cloud

The Federal Employment Agency (BA) is employing private cloud technology provided by a German data centre. In the future, the payment systems for social security benefits such as Unemployment Benefit, Citizen’s Benefit and Child Benefit will be cloud-based. Ensuring social security benefits are reliably paid on time constitutes part of Germany’s critical Infrastructure (KRITIS) and is one of the Federal Employment Agency’s top priorities.

To be able to continue doing all these things in the future, it is important that we continuously modernise our systems. We have therefore opted to use the latest private cloud technology provided by data centres located in Germany. With this move, we will be able to ensure the highest standards of data protection, transparency and security. Something which is of crucial importance for us as a public authority.”

Stefan Latuski, CIO of the Federal Employment Agency, explains: “We have decided to use RISE with SAP to not only make the IT services offered by the Federal Employment Agency more efficient and citizen-orientated, but above all else, to make them more resilient and future-proof. At a time when reliability, flexibility and innovative capability are of increasingly called for, our approach service as an example of a modern, scalable form of public administration in Germany.”

The partnership includes the licencing, provision and operation of the complex SAP system landscape in the KRITIS environment. By using RISE with SAP, the Federal Employment Agency is relying on a private cloud provided by a German data centre, the sovereign cloud capability of which guarantees compliance with the strictest data protection and compliance regulations. Sensitive data is stored and processed exclusively in Germany.

The outsourcing of operations to the SAP experts will also give the Federal Employment Agency access to integrated consulting services for the seamless cloud transformation of its core systems. This will ensure a significant increase in the resilience of the SAP infrastructure of the Federal Employment Agency while maintaining the highest standards of security in modern EU data centres. The new contract offers the Federal Employment Agency full cost transparency and will facilitate the rapid integration of product innovations, especially in the fields of generative AI and sustainability.
