As a student from abroad, you can do an internship in Germany.

The following requirements must be met:

• positiv:The internship must be closely related to your degree programme.
• positiv:You must be able to prove that you have completed at least 4 semesters of the relevant degree programme.
• positiv:Your internship company has applied to the Federal Employment Agency for confirmation of your internship.
• positiv:You can search for available internships in the ‘Job Search’, the job exchange of the Federal Employment Agency.

Find an internship (in German)

As a student from abroad, you can take a holiday job (technical term: ‘holiday employment’) in Germany.

You must fulfil the following requirements:

• positiv:You are enrolled at a foreign university.
• positiv:The holiday job takes place during the official semester break at your university.
• positiv:You work in Germany for a maximum of 90 calendar days within a 12-month period.

The International Placement Services (Zentrale Auslands- und Fachvermittlung) arranges holiday jobs for people from abroad throughout Germany on behalf of the Federal Employment Agency. It works together with partner organisations abroad.

In many countries, partner organisations of the Federal Employment Agency arrange holiday jobs in Germany.

Use the "List of foreign partner organisations" (available in German only) to find out whether there is such an organisation in your country. Find it in the Downloads section at the bottom of this page.

Application via the Federal Employment Agency

If there is no partner organisation of the Federal Employment Agency in your country, you can apply to the Cologne Employment Agency.

Wichtig:Please note: You must apply by 31 January of a calendar year. After this date, you can generally no longer apply for the current year. You should therefore submit your application in good time.

You will need the following documents:

• positiv:Application form for holiday employment (available in German only; find it in the Downloads section below)
• positiv:Declaration of enrolment certificate - Holiday employment (to be completed by the university and available in German only; find it in the Downloads section below)
• positiv:Certificate of enrolment from your university (German or English, for other languages: additional official translation into German or English)
• positiv:Copy of your passport
