Stellenbeschreibung

We are looking for you to join our Strain Development team as soon as possible.

Scientist in Strain Development/ Genetic Engineering (m/f/d)

Full-time (80-100%), permanent

What you will do
  • You will join our Strain Development Department and work closely with the Cell Culture section and other R&D teams as part of a collaborative group of seven coworkers.
  • You will contribute your genetic engineering expertise to R&D and cross-functional projects, designing, executing, and analyzing molecular biology experiments.
  • You will develop and optimize constructs for gene expression, modification, or knockout and validate them using transient expression systems.
  • You will independently plan and perform genetic engineering workflows, troubleshoot challenges, and generate high-quality data to support strain development goals.
  • You will help to identify and evaluate new genetic engineering-related technologies and, depending on your skill set, support bioinformatics or deep-learning activities.
  • You will prepare clear documentation, reports, and presentations and contribute to maintaining ISO-compliant quality standards.
  • You will provide full disciplinary and scientific leadership for two technical assistants and support training of students or interns.
  • You will work closely with other departments and contribute to a positive, team-oriented R&D environment.
What you bring
  • A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Several years of hands-on experience in genetic engineering — minimum 5 years with Master’s or 2 years with Ph.D. — including construct design for eukaryotic systems.
  • Sound knowledge of molecular biology techniques and relevant biosafety regulations.
  • Experience with data analysis, design of experiments, and sequence analysis tools for in silico cloning; bioinformatics or deep-learning skills are a plus.
  • A structured, solution-oriented working style, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Fluency in German and English and proficiency in MS Office 365.
What you can expect
  • We foster a respectful, collaborative environment at all levels.
  • We offer you a permanent employment contract with 30 days’ holiday plus Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve off.
  • Your working hours will be 40 hours per week on a 100% full-time basis with flexible working hours.
  • We are a family-friendly company at heart and offer parents full pay for up to 10 days of sick leave for children per year.
  • Your main workspace will be in our modernized offices in Freiburg. You may work remotely up to two days per week by arrangement.
  • We offer a fair and performance-related salary structure based on the chemical industry tariff.
  • Our benefits for you are regular training opportunities, a pension plan via DYNO, as well as memberships with Hansefit and Corporate Benefits/FutureBens.
  • For your local mobility, we offer you both a job ticket from the RVF and good public transport connections, as well as car and bicycle parking spots.
  • For your meals, we have an in-house canteen.
