BA-SessionId

Own cookie

Reference to the current user session for single sign-on (SSO)
This cookie stores the reference for the user's current session in the context of the single sign-on (SSO) process. It enables the current SSO session to be uniquely associated with an authenticated user. This allows users to seamlessly access multiple services after logging in just once, without having to log in again. The reference itself does not contain any personal information. This cookie is necessary to maintain your session and provide you with secure and user-friendly access to the restricted areas of our website. It is stored only for the duration of your session and is automatically deleted as soon as you log out or close your browser. Without this cookie, the application would not be able to function properly. As soon as you log in, the session cookie stores important information, such as your login status. This means you won't have to log in again every time you change pages during your session.

Session (until browser is closed)No
BA_SessionCookieOwn cookie

Reference and information about the current user session for security checks on the API Gateway
This cookie is set by the API Gateway and contains a persistent session reference for the current user session, which is used for security checks as part of API management. Unlike the "BA-SessionId" cookie, this cookie is persistent beyond the current browser session and remains active for the duration of the login session. It enables the API Gateway to verify the authenticity and authorization of a user's requests upon subsequent accesses without requiring a complete authentication process each time. The reference itself does not contain any personal information. In addition to the session reference, timestamps are also stored to track the duration of the login session.

Login Session DurationNo

Login Session Information
This cookie is set by a component within the identity and access management system. The component is integrated into various portal applications (eServices). The cookie contains the user's session information and ensures that the user is not prompted to log in again while using the portal's applications, as long as the session is valid—even if applications span multiple browser tabs or a web page consists of multiple applications. It is technically essential for the authentication infrastructure of the individual portal applications and for the applications to work together as a whole.

Session (until browser is closed)No
AUTH_SESSION_IDOwnReference to an ongoing sign-in process
This cookie is set by the sign-in system (Keycloak) during the authentication flow (Auth-Flow). It uniquely identifies a user's current login session. This cookie is required solely for the technical processing of the login procedure. Keycloak stores a server-side session reference there, which ensures that multiple requests made during the login process can be associated with the same login session. Without this cookie, successful authentication is technically impossible. It does not contain any personal data but is used to link the browser to the login status on the server.
Session (until browser is closed)No
KC_AUTH_SESSION_HASHOwnHash value of the current login session for integrity checking
This cookie stores a cryptographic hash value of the current login session and serves as an integrity check as part of the authentication process. The login system uses this cookie to ensure that login requests in the browser are consistent and have not been tampered with. The hash value itself cannot be traced back to personal data; it merely refers to the state of the server-side login session.
1 hourNo
KC_RESTARTOwnStatus of an ongoing navigation login process (Back / Cancel / Reload)
This cookie temporarily stores the status of an interrupted or canceled login process. The authentication system (Keycloak) can use this cookie to restore the user's state without requiring the user to start the entire login process over from the beginning. This is required if a user interrupts the sign-in process, reloads the sign-in page, or navigates back to certain pages in the sign-in process (e.g., using the browser's Back button). The cookie contains technical status information about the current login process. The cookie does not contain any personal data; however, it is technically necessary to ensure the stability of the login process.
Session (until browser is closed)No
KEYCLOAK_IDENTITYOwnReference to a current user session
This cookie is the central session token for the identity and access management system (Keycloak). It is issued after successful authentication and contains a signed JSON Web Token (JWT) or a reference to it, which verifies the identity of the logged-in user to Keycloak. This cookie allows Keycloak to recognize in subsequent requests that the user has already been successfully authenticated. In addition to the user account reference, it includes, in particular, issuer and time information to limit its validity and scope.
 No
KEYCLOAK_SESSIONOwnReference to an OpenID Connect session
The cookie represents the user's server-side session in the context of the OpenID Connect protocol. It links the user's browser to the server-side session in the identity and access management system (Keycloak). In addition, Keycloak uses this cookie to ensure that outdated or competing sessions are detected and invalidated when a user logs in again. The cookie is not directly linked to a specific user session; rather, it is technically necessary to invalidate the technical session framework of the user session on the server side.
Maximum login session duration (12 hours)No
loginmethodOwnPreferred login method in the "Forgot Login Credentials" process for a one-time, upcoming login attempt
The cookie is set exclusively during the "Forgot Login Credentials" self-service process and has a very short lifespan. Its purpose is to temporarily store the login method selected as part of this specific process, in order to allow direct, one-time access to the recovery procedure without requiring the user to make the selection again. This cookie is technically necessary to transfer information from the self-service system to the login system. It does not contain any persistent user data. The cookie is set only if the user explicitly selects that login method. It is valid for 2 minutes, since selecting it triggers the redirection to the login system.
2 minutesNo
setas_authorizationOwnInformation from the registration session
The cookie is set by a service within the Check-U and meinBERUF portal applications. Check-U and meinBERUF are part of the “School, Vocational Training, and College” section. The cookie contains the user's session information and ensures that the user is not prompted to log in again while using the applications, as long as their session is valid—even if the applications span multiple tabs in the browser. This cookie is technically essential and cannot be read by the browser code.
