Training Allowance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe)

Vocational training assistance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe - BAB) is granted during vocational training; this applies to the duration of a work preparation scheme as well, including preparation for a subsequent acquisition of a lower secondary school-leaving certificate, or a similar school-leaving certificate. Apprentices are entitled to vocational training assistance if they do not live with their parents during their vocational training.

Aims of the support

  • Overcoming of economic difficulties that stand in the way of suitable professional qualification
  • Supporting a balanced labour market
  • Securing improvement of labour mobility
  • Supporting and complementing the assistances of vocational guidance, especially in cases of supra regional placement for reasons of balance

BAB serves especially

  • as realisation of the social state principle (article 20 Basic Law)
  • the free development of the individual (article 2 Basic Law)
  • the freedom to choose a career (article 12 Basic Law)

Application

Vocational training allowance is granted on application. The application has to be filed with the Employment Agency of the area in which the apprentice has his/her place of residence or habitual abode. If the application for vocational training assistance is filed after the beginning of the vocational training or preparation scheme, it is paid retrospectively as of the beginning of the month of application at the longest.
