The Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Faculty of Medicine, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, invites applications for a Research Associate / MD Candidate / Doctoral Candidate (m/f/d) to join the Research Training Group SynAGE – The Aging Synapse: Molecular, Cellular and Behavioral Underpinnings of Cognitive Decline. This is an excellent opportunity for highly motivated medical graduates interested in neuroscience, neuropharmacology, aging research, cognitive decline, and translational medicine.
Your Responsibilities
As part of an externally funded research project, you will investigate the molecular, cellular and behavioral mechanisms underlying cognitive decline during aging. Your doctoral research project will be defined in consultation with the principal investigators of the Research Training Group SynAGE.
Your responsibilities include
- Planning, conducting and analysing experimental studies
- Applying modern molecular, cellular and behavioural neuroscience techniques
- Analysing, documenting and interpreting scientific data
- Preparing scientific publications and conference presentations
- Collaborating within an interdisciplinary and international research team
- Publishing your research findings as an MD doctoral thesis

Your Profile
You should have
- A completed university degree in Medicine (MD or equivalent), or eligibility to pursue an MD doctorate based on successful completion of the First State Examination in Medicine (or an equivalent qualification)
- A strong interest in neuroscience, pharmacology, aging research or translational medicine
- Motivation to learn new experimental techniques and independently plan and conduct research projects
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Enthusiasm for basic and translational biomedical research
- A collaborative working style and excellent communication skills
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)

Terms and Conditions
- **Salary: **Remuneration according to TV-L pay grade E13 (Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the German Federal States)
- Employment: Part-time (65%), fixed-term position from 1 October 2026 until 30 September 2027
