The German Primate Center (DPZ) - Leibniz Institute for Primate Research in Göttingen conducts basic research in primate biology, molecular biomedicine and neuroscience. It maintains four field stations and is a competence and reference center for research on and with primates. The DPZ is one of the 96 research and infrastructure facilities of the Leibniz Association.

The DPZ is joining forces with the University of Göttingen in the Campus Research Alliance Cognition, Brain and Behavior (CBB). The Alliance is funded by the Ministry of Science and Culture in Lower Saxony and aims to further promote the development of key research areas at the Göttingen Campus.

For the Campus Research Alliance, we invite applications for the position of a

Biostatistician (m/f/d)

to be filled by January 1st, 2027. The position is initially limited to two years, with the possibility for extension until Dec 31st, 2031. The position is also suitable for part-time work.

CBB is an interdisciplinary research platform focusing on the behavior and cognition of humans and nonhuman primates. The key research areas represented in CBB are behavioral and cognitive biology, systems and theoretical neuroscience, psychology and data science.

We are looking for a biostatistician to develop and run a statistics workshop program for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. This should include, but is not restricted to, linear modelling, data simulations and statistical analyses in R, using frequentist and Bayesian approaches. The successful candidate is also expected to provide statistical consultation services, be involved in the planning and analysis of research projects and contribute to the development of grant applications. Independent research activities are encouraged.

Ideal candidates:

• Hold a PhD in biostatistics/statistics or a PhD in biology, neuroscience, psychology, or data science
• Have a documented track record in biostatistical research, teaching, and/or consulting
• Have experience in developing statistical training programs and running statistics workshops, including for non-experts
• Have knowledge of scientific approaches and methods in behavioral and cognitive biology, psychology, and/or neuroscience
• Have expert knowledge of the statistical software R; further experience with MATLAB or Python would be beneficial
• Have high proficiency in English; knowledge of German would be advantageous
• Possess strong communication skills and be interested in contributing to different projects and collaborating with various research teams
