The MV Louise Michel is a former French Navy boat we’ve customized to perform search and rescue. Measuring 30 meters in length and capable of up to 28 knots, she was bought with proceeds from the sale of Banksy artwork - who then decorated her with a fire extinguisher. She is operated and crewed by a team of international activist rescue professionals.

• Main responsibilities: handling the ship, overview, control of the vessel and crew safety

• You have the final responsibility for all nautical and technical decisions concerning the operation as well as related crew intructions

• responsible for the ship’s administration (bunkering, crew-lists, customs clearance, detailed operational documentation, daily reports and statistics).

• shiphandling in harbour and during SAR-operations. Together with the officers you will familiarise the crew on the bridge and introduce them to the watch system.

• You will provide the crew with trainings and drills in emergency situations (e.g. what to do in case of fire, POB, ingress of water, unwanted visitors).

• You will work closely with the Head of operations during SAR operations, double checking all decisions against crew and ship safety as well as stability (and guest safety in case of guest already on board).

• You will work closely with the officers and chief engineer

Required:

-EC/EEA-Citizen Passport valid for at least 6 months

-Covid certificate with EU QR code needed, latest vaccine or recovery certificate no older than 180 days or a booster (other nationalities can be transferred to EU certificate)

-Seafarer Medical Certificate (fitness for sea service) according STCW I/9 (Deck Service)

-Proficiency in basic safety (STCW VI/1)

-Proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats (STCW VI/2-1)

-Proficiency in Advanced fire fighting (STCW VI/3)

-Medical First Aid (STCW VI/4-1)

-Medical Care (STCW VI/4-2)

-GMDSS Radio Operator GOC (STCW IV/2)

-COC Master 500GT-3000GT or more than 3000GT (STCW II/2)

-German Endorsement for COC Master Course

-Seafarer's book or the German Seafarer's ID Card

-Excellent and fluent English language skills

-Confidence in decision-making, strong team leading skills, and the ability to cooperate well within a team of volunteers with various levels of nautical experience and skill.
