The **Faculty of Engineering Sciences **at Heidelberg University invites applications for a
Full Professorship (W3) for “Modeling of Biological Processes” (f/m/d)
at the BioQuant Center for Quantitative Analysis of Molecular and Cellular Biosystems to be filled with a starting date of October 1, 2026.
We seek an outstanding candidate to head a research group at BioQuant that addresses fundamental questions in theoretical and computational modeling of biological processes. The activities of the research group should complement the existing groups at BioQuant, particularly through contributions to the Cluster of Excellence “*SynthImmune”. *The successful candidate is expected to contribute to collaborative research projects at Heidelberg University. The tenured position offers full salary support (W3 level) and a competitive research funding package.
BioQuant was established in 2007 to integrate technology, quantitative experimentation, and modeling approaches in the life sciences. It serves as one of the hubs for the de.NBI-Bioinformatics cloud and it is embedded into a vibrant ecosystem of institutions and initiatives in the life sciences, including the Health+Life Science Alliance Heidelberg-Mannheim and the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing.
The professorship will contribute to teaching in the area of quantitative biology and bioinformatics in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs of the Faculties of Engineering Sciences and Biosciences, particularly in the Master Molecular Biotechnology and the Major Systems Biology in the Master Molecular Biosciences.
Candidates are expected to hold a doctorate in Biosciences, Biophysics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline and should have teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They must have developed a strong independent research profile in the field and have outstanding research and publication records corresponding to their career stage.
In accordance with §47 (1) of the Higher Education Law of the State of Baden-Württemberg (LHG), the appointment requires a university degree, an outstanding doctorate and pedagogical aptitude, which is usually proven by teaching experience. A habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship, or an equivalent qualification is an additional requirement (in accordance with §47 (2) LHG).
