Stellenbeschreibung
Junior API Integration Specialist (Hotel Systems) – Remote & Flexible (EN)
Location: 100% Remote in Germany (alternatively EU Remote: Spain / Portugal / Southern Europe or global if compatible with EOR or contractor setup)
Employment Type: Full-Time (flexible working hours)
Language: English only required
Company Overview
Hotel Res Bot is a fast-growing SaaS company building automation and AI-powered systems for the hotel industry.
We integrate deeply with hotel technology ecosystems (PMS, booking engines, payment providers, and messaging systems) to automate complex operational workflows that are still highly manual in most hotels today.
Our systems rely heavily on API integrations, data mapping, and configuration across multiple external platforms.
Job Summary
We are looking for a Junior API Integration Specialist (Hotel Systems) to join our international team.
This is a highly hands-on technical role focused on understanding, testing, and implementing hotel system APIs (primarily PMS systems) and translating often incomplete or inconsistent documentation into working integrations.
You will act as the bridge between:
- hotel API documentation (often messy or incomplete)
- internal engineering teams
- real-world hotel operational workflows
This role is ideal for someone who is both:
- technically curious (comfortable working with APIs and debugging tools), and
- operationally experienced in hotels (understands how reservations, rates, and availability actually work in practice)
Important Context About the Work
Hotel API documentation is often:
- inconsistent
- incomplete
- built on assumptions of deep PMS knowledge
- not always logically structured
Success in this role depends heavily on your ability to:
- interpret documentation critically
- understand hotel operational logic
- test and validate real API behavior independently
- figure things out without step-by-step guidance
This is not a “follow instructions” role.
Responsibilities
1. API Integration & Testing
- Read and interpret API documentation from PMS, booking engines, and payment providers
- Build and test API requests using Postman
- Validate responses and identify inconsistencies or gaps
- Create working API examples (JSON/XML payloads)
- Debug authentication flows (API keys, OAuth, etc.)
2. Technical Specification & Task Creation
- Translate API behavior into clear GitLab tickets for developers
- Define required fields, mappings, and workflows
- Document edge cases and system limitations
- Ensure developers receive clear, testable specifications
3. Hotel System Understanding
Work with core hotel concepts such as:
- Reservations lifecycle (create, modify, cancel)
- Availability & ARI (Availability, Rates, Inventory)
- Room types and rate plans
- Group blocks and allocations
- Guest, company, and agency profiles
- Policies (cancellation, guarantee, payment rules)
Understanding how these concepts behave in real hotel operations is critical.
4. Integration Debugging & Support
- Investigate API issues using logs and Postman
- Participate in technical troubleshooting (internal and occasional partner calls)
- Ask precise technical questions when documentation is unclear
- Help resolve integration issues with PMS providers when needed
5. Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering and product teams
- Maintain clear documentation of integrations and API behavior
- Continuously improve internal knowledge base and integration standards
Requirements
Must Have
Hotel Experience (critical):
- At least ~1 year of experience in a hotel environment (front desk, reservations, revenue, or operations)
- Strong understanding of how hotel systems are used in practice
- Familiarity with at least one PMS system (any vendor)
Technical Ability:
- Comfortable working with APIs (conceptual understanding required)
- Able to use Postman independently to build and test API requests
- Able to construct and modify JSON (and/or XML) payloads
- Basic understanding of authentication methods (API keys, OAuth, etc.)
- Ability to read technical documentation critically and extract meaning from it
Mindset:
- Strong problem-solving mindset
- Comfortable working with incomplete or unclear documentation
- Highly independent working style
- Scrappy, pragmatic approach (not perfectionist)
- Strong attention to detail
Communication:
- Fluent English (written and spoken)
- Able to explain technical issues clearly and concisely
Nice to Have
- Experience with multiple PMS systems (e.g. Oracle Hospitality, Mews, Cloudbeds, Protel, etc.)
- Previous exposure to API integrations or technical support roles
- Basic development experience or scripting knowledge
- Interest in backend development (Go is used in our stack)
- Experience working in SaaS or travel tech environments
Tools We Use
- Postman (API testing)
- GitLab (task management & engineering coordination)
- Slack (internal communication)
- Google Workspace
- AWS-based infrastructure (no deep AWS knowledge required initially)
What Success Looks Like
Within approximately 6 weeks, you should be able to:
- Independently drive the setup of a first full PMS integration together with engineering support
- Build and validate API flows in Postman for key hotel workflows such as:
- ARI (availability, rates, inventory)
- Reservation creation, modification, and cancellation
- Group block handling
- Translate findings into clear, actionable GitLab tasks for developers
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or missing logic in API documentation and surface them clearly
This is a collaborative process with engineering — you are not expected to implement backend systems, but you are expected to deeply understand and validate how they should behave.
Culture & Working Style
We are a fully remote, international team operating in a trust-based environment.
We value:
- Remote & flexibility first – work from anywhere, structure your day how it works best for you
- High autonomy with high responsibility – you own your work end-to-end
- Strong error culture – mistakes are expected as part of learning; we focus on fixing and improving, not blaming
- Respectful communication – direct feedback is welcome, personal attacks are not
- Pragmatism over perfection – we prefer working systems over theoretical perfection
We work in a fast-moving environment where clarity improves over time through iteration, not upfront perfection.
Benefits
- Fully remote position
- Flexible working hours
- Direct access to engineering and product teams
- High autonomy and ownership
- Opportunity to grow into technical product or engineering roles
- Equipment provided (laptop + accessories if needed)
