Stellenbeschreibung

The Exchange is part of the U.S. Armed Forces. As a retail organization, the Exchange provides soldiers, civilians, and their family members with all the shopping opportunities they are familiar with from home. In addition to stores offering clothing and everyday necessities, AAFES also operates branded restaurants, movie theaters, and more. The organization also includes a large vehicle fleet, a distribution center, and a bakery.

Serves as an Occupational Health & Safety Advisor for the Exchange in Germany.

Position incumbent works under general supervision of the Regional Loss Prevention Manager and assists in providing support to the Exchange Europe Occupational Health and Safety Program in complying with host nation safety laws. Complies with Exchange Occupational Health and Safety policies, directives, and regulations.

Performs as advisor, technical consultant and coordinator in the application of host nation safety laws and their integration into the Exchange Europe Occupational Health and Safety Program. Interprets safety policies and standards, to include OSHA, for application. Assists with implementation and enforcement of standards. Provides professional guidance on safety requirements.

Provides oversight of the Industrial Safety & Preventive Medicine Programs. Assists in ensuring host country safety practices and standards are incorporated into operating procedures, directives, and instructions.

Establishes and maintains close liaison with various safety agencies to ensure cooperation with fleet safety, fire protection and prevention, accident prevention, and other matters of concern. Performs plan reviews, conducts compliance inspections to include facilities, equipment, ergonomics and work processes. Advises on the layout of workplaces, processes, and work environment. Recommends corrective actions.

Analyzes accidents, conducts investigations, prepares reports and recommendations.

May be required to conduct training. Supervises subordinate personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be certified to act as an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist (Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit) under German law plus a minimum of 2 years’ related work experience. Knowledge of worker-safety provisions of the German/European Labor Safety and Occupational Health laws and rules.

Must have completed apprenticeship or college degree in a commercial, administrative business, or technical field closely related to the position. Or must be a state certified business administrator, master craftsman, or technician in a closely related field.

Preferred related work experience in the retail field.

Position involves travel; driver’s license Class B is required.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:

Position requires an excellent command of both written and oral English and German language.
