About the Role
We are looking for a committed and technically minded Data Center Field Service Engineer (m/f/d) to support our customers with the commissioning, maintenance, and operation of modern data center infrastructure — in particular Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx), InRow Coolers, and their associated controls and piping systems.
In this varied role, you take ownership of critical systems on customer sites across Germany and Europe, and act as the direct technical point of contact. You'll work alongside Gatti colleagues in small teams and, when the job calls for it, independently on site.
A mechanical background is a great starting point — most candidates find it easier to come from mechanical and pick up the electrical side on the job. The voltages involved are mostly 12V / 24V DC on the controls, with some 240V AC for power leads and plug changes. Controls systems today are Carel-based (on the Usystems and Stulz doors); the new Gatti door uses a different platform. All of this is learnable — experience just speeds up the ramp-up.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation & Commissioning
- Install, commission, and hand over mechanical and electrical systems in customer data centers
- Install, inspect, and maintain piping and cooling water systems
- Connect and verify low-voltage controls (12V / 24V DC) and 240V AC power leads / plugs
- Perform leak checks, pressure tests, and functional sign-offs before handover
2. Maintenance, Fault Diagnosis & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve faults on electronic components, controllers, and cooling hardware
- Work with Carel control systems (Usystems, Stulz doors) and the new Gatti door controller as it rolls out
- Carry out planned maintenance visits and respond to reactive callouts
- Keep spares, tools, and site documentation organized between jobs
3. Customer Project Ownership
- Take end-to-end ownership of customer projects on site, from arrival to handover
- Produce technical reports, installation records, acceptance documents, and service reports
- Communicate clearly with customer site leads, coordinate with contractors, and escalate when needed
- Represent Gatti professionally inside hyperscaler and colocation environments
- Work in small teams with colleagues, and independently across multiple European sites
Your Profile
We don't expect every candidate to tick every box below. What matters most is a solid technical foundation, a hands-on attitude, and willingness to learn our specific products and controls. We'll train you on the rest.
Education & Experience
- Completed vocational training or degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, mechanical engineering, mechanics, or similar — mechanical-first backgrounds are very welcome
- Several years of experience in technical field service, ideally in data center or industrial environments
- Experience in electrical installation or pipe fitting is a plus
- Experience with electronics and control systems is a plus (Carel in particular is a bonus)
Personal Competencies
- Physically fit, with a hands-on mentality — this is a practical role on live customer sites
- Happy to travel frequently and flexibly across Germany and Europe (working away from home weeks at a time is part of the job)
- Good to very good English, spoken and written; German is a plus
- Confident, professional presence in front of customers
- Team player who can also work independently and structured
- Strong communicator, able to own and coordinate a project without constant supervision
Formal Requirements
- Valid driving license (Class B)
- Valid passport for international assignments
Ideal Candidate Traits
- Hands-on, practical problem solver — enjoys fixing things in the real world
- Calm under pressure on live customer sites
- Takes pride in clean workmanship and complete documentation
- Curious — happy to keep learning new products, controls, and procedures
- Reliable and punctual, especially when customer uptime depends on it
- Safety-first mindset
What We Offer
- Interesting projects with leading customers in the tech and cloud industry (hyperscalers, colocation operators)
- Attractive compensation package including travel allowances and per diems
- Modern tools and equipment
- Structured onboarding plus regular training and certifications
- A collegial team with flat hierarchies and short decision paths
- Long-term perspective in a fast-growing market
We welcome applications regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, disability, age, or sexual identity.
