BBIS has an opening for a Science Technician / Lab Assistant (f/m/d).
Location: Kleinmachnow (Berlin region)
**Contract type:** Full-time (40 working hours per week), usually working time Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Start date: 1st August 2026
Limited initially until 31st July 2028
Vacation: Time off during school holidays, offering up to 60 days of paid leave per calendar year (comprising statutory, supplementary, and institutional leave). Please note that the first and last five working days of the summer break are reserved for essential laboratory preparation and wrap-up.
Salary range: 42,680,32 - 48.653,85 gross/year (based on experience/classification) plus annual CPI-based adjustments/potential responsibility stipends
**About this role:**
As a Science Technician, you will play a vital role in our school by supporting our secondary teachers and students in the science department. You will be responsible for preparing, maintaining, and managing laboratory equipment, materials, and experiments, ensuring a safe, efficient, and organized environment for hands-on scientific inquiry.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES
- **Preparation & Support:** Prepare and set up laboratory equipment, apparatus, and chemicals for experiments and demonstrations. Provide hands-on support during classes, assisting students and instructors. Support teachers with educational displays and reproducing or creating classroom resources.
- **Experiment Design & Maintenance:** Assist in the design, assembly, and testing of experimental setups. Maintain, clean, calibrate, and troubleshoot scientific instruments. Keep an organized record of past experiments and equipment used.
- **Inventory Management:** Manage and organize laboratory stock within our inventory systems, oversee ordering of chemicals and supplies, and ensure equipment is properly put away and labs are kept tidy after experiments.
- **Communication & Collaboration:** Work closely with the science faculty to develop and improve systems of communication and organization. Communicate any technical or operational concerns directly to the Head(s) of Department.
- **Lab Safety:** Monitor everyday safety protocols within the laboratories, ensuring correct storage of materials and that teachers and students utilize protective equipment properly.
YOUR QUALIFICATION
- Education: Degree or technical training in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Lab Technology, CTA/BTA/PTA).
- Experience: Practical experience managing laboratory environments, ideally within an educational setting, is a significant advantage.
- **Language Skills:** Highly proficient English (the school’s working language). A good working knowledge of German is a strong asset for coordinating with local suppliers and technical partners.
- Organized & Problem Solver: Able to meet deadlines, set long-range plans, consider multiple ways to solve technical problems, and discern which solutions best serve our school population.
- Communicator: Strong communication skills, providing clarity, coherence, and thoughtful dialogue with international staff and students.
- **Team Builder:** Understands and actively works towards building strong, collaborative relationships within the science department.
