The Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change (LIB) is one of the large, globally connected research museums of the Leibniz Association. In addition to excellent research on biodiversity and its change, we are advancing the further development of our extensive scientific collections with an international team and state-of-the-art technology. With our exhibition, knowledge transfer and communication work at our exhibition venues Museum Koenig Bonn and Museum der Natur Hamburg, we want to spread enthusiasm for nature and contribute with our research topics to current socio-political discussions on species loss, climate change and the protection of ecosystems. The construction of an integrated natural history museum is being planned for the Hamburg location; the research infrastructure at the Bonn location is currently being significantly expanded.
Become part of our institute in Bonn. We are looking for a candidate to start on August 1, 2026, on a fixed-term contract in accordance with the Part-Time and Fixed-Term Employment Act, initially ending on June 30, 2028, as
Curatorial Assistant at the biobank / Management of the Cell Culture Laboratory (f/m/d)
in part-time (60%) with 23.90 hours/week.
Your tasks:
- Laboratory work in our DNA and especially cell culture laboratories; data evaluation, literature research, establishment of (partly species-specific) protocols, particularly in the areas of cell culture and cryopreservation
- Management of biobank samples: documentation, quality control, data management, preparation, preservation, and depositions
- Selection of biobank samples for requests and applications, international communication regarding these, sample retrieval, and shipping
- Management of the cell culture laboratory; development and adaptation of laboratory safety concepts
- Supervision and guidance of users, interns, students, etc.; laboratory briefings
Your profile:
- Completed university degree in life sciences or relevant professional experience
- Extensive experience in cell culture laboratories, including developing and adapting cell culture protocols (especially for different animal species)
- Experience with karyotyping is advantageous but not mandatory
- Experience in managing biobank samples
- Good IT skills (databases, spreadsheets) and solid English language skills for international correspondence
- Team orientation and strong social competence, meticulous and responsible work style, initiative, and problem-solving skills
- High flexibility regarding working hours (especially concerning cell culture)
