At the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, scholars pursue research relating to basic issues and current developments in the areas of public international law, European Union law, and the constitutional and administrative law of individual states, together with numerous visiting scholars from all over the world. In its fields, our library is the largest in Europe and one of the most comprehensive in the world.

We are looking for a

Jessup Moot Court Coach (x/f/m)

for the supervision of the Heidelberg Jessup Moot Court Team

50%, fixed-term contract,
from 1 September 2026 to 30 April 2027
place of work is the MPIL Heidelberg

The position includes organizing and supervising the participation of the Heidelberg University’s Team in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in 2026/27. The head coach is supported by two student coaches. As a tradition, the teams are hosted and coached at the MPIL Heidelberg. This requires presence at the institute. Remote coaching is not possible.

Your Tasks:
  • Coordinating and supervising the team’s participation in the competition
  • Cooperating with two student coaches
  • Introducing team members to public international law
  • Coaching the team during the drafting of memorials and during the oral phase
  • Assuming all related organizational tasks
Your Profile:
  • Successful former participation in a moot court competition
  • German state examination in Law (Staatsexamen with distinction) or an equivalent foreign legal qualification
  • Excellent command of English
  • Very good knowledge of Public International Law
  • Good organizational skills
