Stellenbeschreibung

The Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) is, with its holistic approach to sustainability, its unique range of courses geared towards future-oriented topics and its strong institutional commitment to the field of sustainability research, a driving force for sustainable development. Around 2,300 students from about 60 nations study and more than 400 employees teach, research and work at the modern university. The mission of the HNEE is to lead the transformation towards a sustainable society by developing viable model solutions and equipping students with the necessary skills to shape the future.

For the Biodiversa+ DFG-funded project “PaCE” we are looking to fill the following positions as soon as possible:

Academic staff member (d/f/m) in the project Peace and Conservation of Ecology at Disputed Seas (50 %; 20 hours per week)

The position is limited until 31 March 2029

Remuneration is based on personal qualifications up to pay grade E 13 TV-L (50%)

The Biodiversa+ project “PaCE” is looking for a researcher for the project, “Peace and Conservation of Ecology at Disputed Seas”. The PaCE researcher from Germany will primarily join the work packages on nature-positive activities in the South China Sea (SCS) / West Philippine Sea (WPS) and science diplomacy and peacebuilding. PaCE in Germany is funded by the German Research Society (DFG) and the advertised position will be based at the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development.

Your tasks
  • Independently contribute data on the interconnection of biodiversity loss and geopolitical conflict in the SCS/WPS, as well as on the role of science diplomacy and peacebuilding for biodiversity conservation in the SCS/WPS
  • Publish research results in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or present the results at conferences
  • Closely cooperate with project teams in the Netherlands and Taiwan for data management and science communication
Requirements
  • Excellent inter- and transdisciplinary background (master’s degree in maritime anthropology or maritime ethnology, marine social and cultural sciences, human geography, sustainability science, or a related field)
  • Good background in data management, qualitative research methods, and/or science communication
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English and Vietnamese (at least C1 level according to the CEFR)
Desiberale
  • Experience in writing scientific journal articles
  • Education or work experience in the management of international research projects
  • Intercultural experience working with Indigenous peoples and local communities, especially in projects implemented in Vietnam
  • Good knowledge of environmental statistics and/or geographic information systems
  • In addition, you identify with the university’s sustainability aspirations and contribute to fostering an in-clusive and discrimination-aware university culture.
