Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d): Interaction of viral proteins with glial cells and neurons

(part time; 25 hrs./week; limited to 36 months)

The main interest of our well-connected research group is on the significance of proteolysis in the brain and in epithelial organs. We focus on endo-lysosomal cysteine peptidases and analyse their involvement in physiological versus pathological conditions using cellular models and advanced quantitative cell biological approaches. The current third-party funded position invites applications of candidates with a strong interest in neuro-pathologies caused by viruses. The focus will be on studying the contribution of astrocytes to the neuropathological effects of SARS-CoV-2.

Your Profile:

  • PhD degree in Cell Biology or Neurobiology.
  • Research experience as responsible team player in academia.
  • Motivation for scientific work in the lab and a genuine enjoyment in writing.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
  • Strong expertise in cell culture techniques including co-cultures and organoids.
  • Strong expertise in high-resolution laser scanning microscopy and image analysis.
  • Expertise in standard biochemical and molecular biological methods.
  • Knowledge in quantitative cell biological approaches will be an advantage.
