Stellenbeschreibung

In order to fill a fixed-term position in full-time (39.83 hours/week = 100%) at the earliest possible date, we are looking for a

Doctoral Researcher (m/f/x)

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation (ICAMS) is a research centre at the Ruhr University Bochum, focusing on the development and application of multi-scale simulation tools for advanced materials. ICAMS is embedded into a network of national and international collaborations. Researchers and students benefit from this top international and interdisciplinary environment. The research group Materials Informatics and Data Science is looking for a doctoral researcher at the intersection of Materials Informatics for electrocatalysis to address the atomic-scale understanding and design of multi-functional compositionally complex solid solution surfaces.

The tasks associated with the offered position include the development of novel methods for projecting raw data, in particular from experimental measurements, into appropriate data-based representations and to learn correlations between different modalities of data. This serves our group’s ongoing research to contribute to the understanding of the correlations between composition, structure, and various properties relevant for electrocatalysis.

Scope: full-time
Duration: fixed-term, 3 years
Start: at the earliest possible date
Apply by: 2026-08-04

Your tasks:

  • Dimensionality analysis and reduction of (mainly) experimental raw data
  • The development of modality-specific encoders and projectors in particular in contrastive learning frameworks
  • Actively collaborate and coordinate directly with experimentalists of different groups with different instrumentation and data formats
  • Connect experimentally-measured with computation-based data

Your profile:

  • Outstanding, science-driven candidate with strong programming capabilities and a Master of Science in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related fields
  • Expertise and experience with multinary solid solution alloys for electrocatalytic applications
  • Experience using UNIX-like operating systems
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific software development, reproducible workflows, testing, continuous integration and software version control with git
  • Demonstrated programming experience in Python
  • Prior experience with contrastive learning approaches for materials data is a bonus
