The Crime, Labor and Inequality Department at the DIW Berlin focuses on the effects of labor market, social, and economic policy on the decisions and behavior of individuals and households. Research in the department is particularly concerned with aspects related to the economic causes and consequences of crime, as well as the potential interactions between crime on the one hand and equal opportunities and distributional issues on the other. The focus lies on microeconomic, empirical research that contributes to an evidence-based discourse. 

 Starting as soon as possible, the DIW Berlin is looking for 

Postdoc (F/M/X)

(Full time/39 hours per week)

Your responsibilities:

• Innovative research in applied microeconomics, especially economics of crime, labor and inequality
• Publication of research articles in leading international journals
• Presentation of research papers at international and national conferences and workshops
• Further knowledge transfer through policy-relevant publication formats
• Active participation in the department’s research and policy analysis environment
• Collaboration with other members of the Crime, Labor and Inequality Department and the DIW Berlin, as well as with national and international cooperation partners

Your qualifications:

• Candidates are expected to hold a PhD in economics or related fields.
• Strong background in applied microeconomics, with research experience in the economics of crime, labor and/or inequality
• Excellent knowledge of contemporary micro-econometric methods and empirical research
• Experience working with large datasets and administrative data (experience in collecting data from public agencies and institutions is welcomed)
• Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English (knowledge of German is not necessary but welcomed)
• Interest in policy-relevant research and teamwork, with the potential to contribute substantially to research and policy analysis

You are paid according to the collective agreement for the public sector (Tarifvertrag des öffentlichen Dienstes, 

TVöD Bund), which includes an annual bonus as well as a company pension with VBL Ost. 

The office is located in the middle of Berlin-Mitte convenient to public transportation. As a DIW Berlin employee, you are eligible for a reduced VBB-Firmenticket that is partially subsidized. In addition, DIW Berlin offers access to Urban Sports Club, giving you the opportunity to choose from a wide range of sports and fitness activities at a reduced rate.

The position is fixed-term until May 15, 2027. Remuneration is paid according to TVöD Bund, salary group E14. The gross salary range is €5,298.27 to €7,551.78 per month.
