Stellenbeschreibung

Since being founded in 1815, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen has offered medicine of the highest standard and incorporated the latest insights from medical research and state-of-the-art equipment into diagnosis and therapy. More than 9,600 employees from approximately 50 different occupations are needed to provide the wide range of services offered by Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, ensuring our patients receive the very best care around the clock.

The research group Translational Immuno-Dermatology headed by Prof. Caroline Voskens and based in the department of Dermatology has a very strong translational focus and closely cooperates with the department of Biophysics (Prof. Ben Fabry) and department of Gastroenterology, Pulmonology and Endocrinology (Prof. Markus Neurath and Prof. Sebastian Zundler). Our major goal is the clinical translation of our laboratory-findings and we are in the unique situation to be able to produce and release Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products in the clean rooms of our department-based Good Manufacturing Production (GMP) facility. We recently finished a phase I dose-escalation clinical trial testing the safety and tolerability of ex vivo expanded regulatory T cells in patients with ulcerative colitis. A phase II multi-center clinical trial has been approved by the German authorities and will soon be initiated. Additional research activities focus on the development of regulatory T cells with enhanced migration and suppressive properties and the antitumor potential of ex vivo expanded natural killer cells.

Your tasks:

To regulate ongoing immune responses, the entry and exit of T cells from the sites of inflammation is crucial and targeting the checkpoints controlling the recirculation and residence of T cells could promote resolution of inflammation.

  • Elucidate the molecular mechanisms that control intestinal egress in homeostasis and inflammation
  • Assess the expression of molecules associated with how regulatory T cells leave or remain in tissues
  • Optimize their migratory behaviour to induce long-term remission in inflammatory bowel disease

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biology, life sciences, or a closely related field
  • Motivation to work in an interdisciplinary, translational research group
  • Sufficient English language skills
  • Strong interest in method development and translational research
  • Ability to work independently as well as in an interdisciplinary team
  • Prior experience with flow cytometry, cell culture and a basic knowledge in cell biology, immunology and molecular biology

Additionally beneficial are:

  • You are experienced and knowledgeable in bioinformatics

Comments:

  • The project is funded by the German Research Council (DFG) as part of the newly approved Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1755 “CASCAID – Cellular and Systems Control of Autoimmune Disease”.
  • The project and employment will run until 31.12.2029.

We offer:

  • An interdisciplinary and highly collaborative team
  • Careful and qualified induction training
  • A comprehensive health promotion program
  • Intended grouping, depending on qualifications and personal requirements, in accordance with TV-L
  • A crisis-proof job with all benefits of a collective wage agreement, including a supplementary pension from the Versorgungsanstalt des Bundes und der Länder (VBL), with us as a systemically relevant employer in the public sector
