What to Expect
The Workshop Technician will be responsible for developing and maintaining the Electronic Systems Engineering workshop facility. This facility enables trials, tests and general physical validation to support the engineering design and development activities for new products. The space is shared amongst several Engineering teams therefore consideration for a broad array of needs and uses must be met.
What You’ll Do
- Assemble, update, and repair prototype Low Voltage wire harnesses as well as associated electromechanical assemblies.
- Build and support low-volume prototype parts, test jigs, fixtures, and assemblies for electrical, mechanical, thermal validation, and pre-production reliability testing.
- Perform hands-on validation testing including thermal characterization, functional checks, continuity, and isolation testing during trial builds.
- Provide clear, accurate, and timely feedback to design engineers on issues discovered during assembly, testing, and trial builds.
- Manage Engineering test vehicles and support the development and maintenance of engineering bucks, trials, and workshop test setups.
- Design and maintain an effective workshop layout that optimizes access to workbenches, vehicles, and bucks while establishing suitable storage, waste disposal, and workspace organization. Conduct regular audits to ensure areas are used as intended.
- Ensure appropriate security procedures, health and safety standards, and confidentiality protocols are maintained and observed.
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience as an Industrial or Manufacturing Technician in an automotive workshop environment.
- Able to read and interpret electrical schematics, harness drawings, engineering drawings, and 3D CAD models. Capable of building harnesses from scratch with high-quality workmanship.
- Hands-on experience building wire harnesses, including crimping, wire splicing, continuity/isolation testing, and knowledge of wiring rules for sizing and fusing.
- Proficient in the use of multimeters, high-voltage test equipment, soldering irons, ultrasonic welding, wire crimping tools, and connector pin extraction tools.
- Understanding of mechanical assembly, machining, 3D printing, and laser cutting is preferred.
- Able to create clear work instructions for installation and rework, and capable of sourcing tools, hardware, and test equipment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proactive mindset with strong initiative; able to identify facility improvement opportunities and develop/maintain the workshop with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in MS Office. Experience with JIRA and basic coding is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with all levels of management and cross-functional teams.
- High degree of personal discipline and the ability to uphold protocols and standards.
