Stellenbeschreibung

What to Expect

Tesla is looking to hire a rock-star designer to push the creative boundaries of lighting and cabin UX, as Tesla pursues a path to enabling autonomous transport. As an interior designer, you will be responsible for the interior design development of future Tesla vehicles. You will be part of the team that creates and executes world-class vehicle designs in terms of form and function. Working alongside the most creative and resourceful designers and engineers in the world on a lean and agile team, you will be responsible for cabin design themes, from concept definition at the industrial design phase, to prototype creation, design iterations as well as working with suppliers on developing new key technologies and methodologies to enable scaling of the design.  Using your considerable production design experience and innovative thinking, you will primarily be tasked with creating designs for future cars. Our design team prides itself on being multitalented and flexible, and we look for the same in our potential candidates.

What You’ll Do
  • Engineer, develop and execute world-class interior cabin themes that meet vehicle styling intent and are compliant to regulatory requirements.
  • Developing new novel designs that will enable new technology adoption.
  • Work through the entire product cycle with critical input early in development by collaborating with Tesla’s design/styling and engineering teams.
  • Participate in the iterative process with all stakeholders to deliver the optimal balance of form, function, performance and cost.
  • Direct Tesla and supplier engineering development to enable successful execution.
  • Maintain all required product design roadmap across all programs with a clear understanding of attribute weighting.
  • Work with cross functional integration of interior lighting and switches with the Tesla design/styling team, interior engineering, Low-voltage electronics and manufacturing as well as with Tesla supply chain teams and supplier engineers to achieve technical feasible designs.

What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automotive or Transportation Design, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in production automotive design, or a combination of advanced and production design
  • Must understand the fundamental differences in design and engineering of premium cars and have examples of completed programs.
  • Must have in-depth technical knowledge of prototyping, manufacturing, and assembly processes as it relates to automotive design.
  • High level of skill taking 2D sketches to 3D modeling in Alias and clay
  • Excellent at creating and maintaining cross-functional working relationships
  • Exceptional visual and oral communication skills. Demonstrate aptitude for creativity in design, and the ability to execute feasible solutions to complex engineering problems.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage multiple parallel-path projects
  • Demonstrated an ability to deliver successful designs under tight timing constraints and provide examples of such scenarios throughout career
  • Develop interior design proposals for Tesla vehicles, ranging from broad design themes all the way to component-level design
  • Create compelling sketches that show a vision for the future of Tesla design
  • Guide a design from the sketch phase to concept modeling in Alias or clay, and through to A-class surfacing
  • Work with engineers to come up with design and engineering solutions that serve the design vision and also fit with the engineering constraints
  • Participate in cross-functional strategy, timing, and process discussion as it pertains to vehicle development
  • Work with CMF designers to create designs that consider the opportunities and limits of the color and trim vision, and work with them to create a unified vision for the designs
  • Work with suppliers to achieve the best possible product in terms of craftsmanship, cost, and engineering, while also staying as close to the design vision as possible
  • Collaborate with the fabrication team to complete prototypes when necessary
  • Occasionally participate in design efforts outside of your area of expertise as necessity and as your own skillset dictates
  • First principles, physics based thinker and problem solver able to handle problems of varied scope and complexity
  • Understanding of latest lighting, UX and haptics technologies including capacitive touch, time of flight, OLED, etc
  • Understanding of design interaction with the  latest manufacturing technologies and feasibility execution to achieve systems requirements and world-class craftsmanship and performance targets. This role will be based in EMEA. Please apply with a portfolio and a CV in English
