Lecturer (m/f/d) for North American Studies | Political Science

The transdisciplinary North American Studies Program (NAS) at the Institute of English, American and Celtic Studies at the University of Bonn is dedicated to teaching and research about the USA and Canada as cultural, political and economic systems. It offers the MA program North American Studies, cooperates with other disciplines in the BA English Studies and BA of Education English, and regularly organizes extracurricular events such as a lecture series, panel discussions, and symposia.

Your tasks:

  • Teaching Political Science with a focus on the United States and Canada (in English) (BA and MA level) (12 SWS),
  • Examination procedures in all the above-mentioned degree programs,
  • Research activities,
  • Cooperation in transdisciplinary projects of the North American Studies program and with other research units at Bonn University that focus on Political Science,
  • Responsibility for administrative tasks within the NAS.

Your profile:

Your profile:

  • A university degree with a doctorate is required; a second book (Habilitation) or equivalent qualification at the time of appointment is desirable,
  • Teaching experience and research activities in the areas of transatlantic relations, foreign and/or domestic policy, and/or the historical development of the political system of the US and Canada; a particular interest in the areas of political cultures and comparative Political Science, as well as in current issues in transdisciplinary research and debates about methodology, is desired,
  • Experience in transdisciplinary teaching and cooperative research,
  • Very good written and spoken English skills (the language of instruction for the degree programs is English),
  • International collaborative networks.
