Description
At the Institute of Transfusion Medicine and Cellular Therapeutics (Director: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Hannes Klump) we investigate mRNA-based reprogramming hematopoietic cells. Our aims are to generate and expand hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and to produce novel cellular therapeutics for patient care. We further investigate the regulation of translation in resting HSCs and during their differentiation into the hematopoietic lineages, as well as stimulation-induced changes to translation in mature hematopoietic cells. Our aim is to gain unprecedented and molecular insight into the underlying genetic programs and mechanisms and to leverage this understanding for the generation of novel therapeutic approaches.
In close collaboration with our research partners, we employ multidisciplinary approaches combining chemical synthesis, cell biology, molecular genetics, and biochemistry. We further offer an outstanding, international research environment with state-of-the-art facilities located in a newly constructed building that houses spacious clean rooms.
