Senckenberg Society for Nature Research (SGN), headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, is seeking to fill the following position at the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (SBiK-F), starting as soon as possible:
Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) - Deep time organic biomarker analytics expert
(part time)
Location: Frankfurt
Employment scope: part time (75 %)
Type of contract: temporary, limited to 2 years
Remuneration: collective agreement of the state Hesse (TV-H) / E13
The Senckenberg Society for Nature Research is a member of the Leibniz Association and has been investigating the “Earth System” worldwide for more than 200 years, examining the past, analysing the present, and developing projections for the future. We conduct integrative geobiodiversity research with the aim of understanding nature in all its complexity and diversity in order to preserve it as the foundation of life for future generations and to ensure its sustainable use. Across eight institutes and five research stations throughout Germany, scientists from more than 40 countries conduct research at the highest international level.
The mission of the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre is to study the complex interactions between biodiversity and climate change.
We are looking for an organic biomarker expert with proven experience in deep time paleoclimate research. We strive to explore material from UNESCO World Heritage sites and experience in handling material from such environments is desired. One key goal of the position is to contribute to the reconstruction of highly-resolved deep-time paleoclimate records in Central Europe during a key climate interval of the Paleogene.
Your tasks
- Using state-of-the-art biomarker analytics to develop a paleoclimatic framework within a highly-resolved deep-time paleoclimate archive
- Contribute to refinement of biomarker proxy applications
- General contributions to laboratory development
- Collaborate with geologists and paleobiologists in the team to establish interrelationships between climatic change and paleo biological diversity
Your profile
- Doctoral degree in Earth Sciences with particular focus on organic biomarker geochemistry in deep time paleoclimate archives
- Profound and documented experience in stable isotope geochemistry and biomarker analysis.
- Expertise in data analysis and willingness to collaborate closely with colleagues in paleobiology, paleoclimate research and Earth surface processes
- Proven ability to publish biomarker geochemistry data in scientific journals with highest scientific standards
- Profound experience in organic geochemical laboratory work
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in German and English
Desirable skills
- Research experience in interdisciplinary working environments
