Stellenbeschreibung
Research Associate (m/f/d)
Institute for Autonome Cyber-Physische Systeme
Remuneration EG 13 TV-L
ID 16226WE24
Start of employment as soon as possible
Application deadline 15.07.2026
Scope fulltime - and fixed term until 48 months
As part of the school of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics (EIM), the Institute for Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems (ACPS) conducts research on novel methods, protocols, and computer algorithms for low- and zero-power wireless communication and energy management for regeneratively powered and intermittent devices with a special focus on smart infrastructure. We conduct fundamental research on in- and through-metal acoustic communication, and we study underwater communication and localization for sensor networks and swarms of micro autonomous underwater vehicles (uAUVs) for monitoring and inspection of underwater habitats and infrastructure (such as ports, off-shore wind parks, etc.).
Within these research areas, we are seeking to fill a fully-funded position for research and teaching. In particular, we envision fundamental, thrilling research on near-zero-power sensing in the field of underwater communication, networking, and localization. Potential research topics include passive backscatter communication and sensing for ultra-low-power underwater sensor tags, location-aware medium access and networking protocols, and novel localization techniques using meta materials or miniature piezo arrays. Advances in research on these topics enable long-term, environmentally-friendly underwater sensing to help facing climate change by creating self-sustained solutions for underwater monitoring and sensing.
YOUR TASKS
- Research on underwater communication (analog backscatter, networking) and/or localization
- Design and implementation of embedded software and hardware for lab and real-world experiments
- Planning, execution, and evaluation of scientific real-world experiments
- Writing of scientific papers and presentation of results at conferences and other scientific events
- Engagement in related teaching activities in context of the institute's teaching modules
